European Steering Commitee

The ESC regularly brings together high-profile European personalities in order to debate issues fundamental for the future of the Union (economic and social cohesion in an enlarged Europe, the Federation of Nation States, the fight against organised crime in Europe, reform of institutions, etc). It sets the direction of Notre Europe's research and formulates possible future directions for the European project. These debates are a source of inspiration in Notre Europe's daily work.

    Notre Europe's viewpoint | 17/11/2009
Declaration of Notre Europe’s Committee on November 7th 2009. The Lisbon Treaty offers a re-written score for Europe: it is up to its newly strengthened institutions, led by men and women freshly summoned for the task, to interpret it in a way which will rise to the challenges of this century. A new season has arrived for Europe: in the years to come, it will not be a case of amending the Treaties, but of fully exploiting their potential.

Declaration of Notre Europe's Steering Committee on November 7-8, 2008. The current world economic crisis is the most serious for Europe since the Second World War. At this stage it is impossible to foresee the outcome and the duration of the significant changes happening before our eyes. Europe is not sheltered from the present storm: it will emerge strengthened or seriously undermined by internal conflict. As is often the case, this adversity is at once an opportunity and a threat....

The members of Notre Europe's European Steering Committee met on 7th and 8th November expressed their general agreement to this text signed by Mr Padoa-Schioppa.

Notre Europe was founded in 1996 by Jacques Delors, then outgoing president of the European Commission. Its aim was to be a forum for study and thinking on the past, present and future of European integration. On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, which coincides with the celebrations for the 50th birthday of the Treaty of Rome (see site of our partners), Notre Europe is involved in several key events.
