Notre Europe publishes its report "Reshaping EU-US Relations:A Concept Paper" Presentation on 16 March at the European Parliament at the invitation of Jerzy Buzek

In the context of its research project "Europe and World Governance", Notre Europe* is publishing a report entitled "Reshaping EU-US Relations:A Concept Paper". The document is the product of a high-level working group established by Notre Europe, comprising former European ministers and heads of government:

  • Romano Prodi (co-chair), former President of the European Commission and former Italian Prime Minister
  • Guy Verhofstadt (co-chair), former Prime Minister of Belgium
  • Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament, former Prime Minister of Poland
  • Étienne Davignon, former Vice-President of the European Commission
  • Jacques Delors, former President of the European Commission
  • Joschka Fischer, former German foreign minister
  • Paavo Lipponen, former Prime Minister of Finland
  • Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa, President of Notre Europe, former Italian Minister of Finances

The report was edited by Nicole Gnesotto,as rapporteur, and coordinated by Sami Andoura, Timo Behr and Gaëtane Ricard-Nihoul of Notre Europe.

The report's authors make a lucid examination of changes at the world level and their effects on the European Union and the United States. Above all, they propose a new approach which leaves behind the Union's national illusions and America's imperialist ones, and allows the Euro-American partnership to become a springboard for a global partnership. In an age of turbulent international change, the report uses fresh thinking and analysis to answer the question: "What kind of globalisation do we want?" Notre Europe and the members of the working group have officially presented the report on 16 March at the European Parliament at the invitation of its current president, and former Polish minister, Jerzy Buzek.

Study by The High Level Task Force on EU/US Relations | 16/03/2010
Euro-American relations can no longer be approached and practiced in the way they were for more than half a century. A high-level European reflection group comprising former Ministers and Heads of Government was brought together by Notre Europe to review the future of the Euro-American partnership. It undertook a sober examination of the changes under way in the world and their effects on the European Union and the United States. Above all, the group proposes a new approach based on renunciation of EU national and US imperial illusions that could enable the Euro-American partnership to become a springboard for a global partnership.
